People usually think of apple pie, hot dogs, and burgers when they think of standard American food. And the standard burger has really changed over the past few years. When you go to a diner, you’ll find burgers that are made with new mixtures of flavors. Burgers now have a lot to offer, whether it’s a standard burger with high-quality ingredients or a twist with new ingredients. And to show just how far the burger has come – we’ve found the seven best burgers in the United States. We’re sure that these choices will make every burger fan drool.
1. Double Cheeseburger
Au Cheval says with pride that their double cheeseburger is their specialty food, and we can see why. The double hamburger has two thin patties with just the right amount of seasoning. Cheese, pickles, and a fresh “Dijonnaise” sauce are on the burger. To make it “Au Cheval” style, go the extra mile and add a fried egg and bacon.
2. Emmy Burger
You might be surprised to learn that one of the top seven burgers in the United States comes from a pizza place. Still, this husband and wife team loves pizza, but they came up with a killer burger that you’ll think about for years. The Emmy Burger is made with dry-aged Pat LaFrieda beef, Emmy sauce, onions that have been sautéed, and a lot of melted Grafton cheddar. And this beauty is served with cornichons and fries on a pretzel bun.
Pizza Loves Emily’s burger is so famous that it’s the only thing on the menu with an asterisk that says it can’t be changed or substituted and that there are only a few of them available each night.
3. Party Melt Burger
Better Luck Tomorrow in Houston has a Party Melt Burger that is a unique take on the basic burger. The ground beef in the beef patty is cooked in beef fat to give it more flavor. The cheese is grilled, so it gets crispy and adds body to the burger. And the additions of caramelized onions and finely sliced red onions add a lot of onion flavor. The bun is what makes this standard burger different. This burger doesn’t have a bun. Instead, it’s between two slices of homemade Parmesan bread. It’s a wonderfully savory mix of tastes that just work amazingly together.
4. The Onion Burger
Almost everyone in Oklahoma has heard of Sid’s Diner’s Onion Burger. This burger has been talked about on the Travel Channel, Man vs. Food, and the Food Network. The fried onion burger comes as 14, 12, or a whole pound of meat cooked on a “well-seasoned grill.” And the secret to this amazing burger is that the onions are mashed into the meat so that as the meat cooks, the onions brown and add flavor to the patty. Even though you can ask for raw onions or none at all, we think you should just let Sid’s Diner do what they do best.
5. Chili Burger
Since 1945, Chronis’ Famous Sandwich Shop has been offering fresh, tasty food to people in Los Angeles. The well-known Chili Burger is the burger to get here. Your burger is topped with a generous amount of yellow mustard, a pile of juicy, hot chili, crisp lettuce, and fresh tomatoes. It’s easy to make, tastes great, and will fill your burger desire.
6. Mission Burger
As if this list hasn’t been full of surprises already – our number six spot for the best burger goes to a bowling alley. The Mission Bowling Club makes an amazing burger with a patty made of organic brisket and chuck meat that is fried in beef fat. The burger is served on an Acme bun and has Monterey Jack cheese, sautéed onions, and a delicious caper sauce on top. It’s easy to make, filling and has just the right amount of fat.
7. Stella’s Bar & Grill
Stella’s Bar & Grill has been a staple in Nebraska since 1936. It is owned and run by the same family. The burgers at this small diner have been written about in Business Insider, Gourmet Magazine, and Urban Spoon. Additionally, Stella’s has won Omaha’s Best Burger for 10 years in a row.
Order the triple cheeseburger if you want to go all out. It has three 6.5-ounce pieces of ground beef on a fresh bun from an Italian restaurant down the street. The standard additions are lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onion, and mayonnaise. It’s a good version of an American standard.
